  • The Petrol Crisis

    Mon 27 Sep 2021

Why are people queuing at petrol stations?

Transport secretary Grant Shapps said oil refineries had "plenty of petrol" and that the government could bring in the army to help drive fuel tankers if needed. However, there is a small percentage of stations that have limited supplies of fuel and others that have had to shut completely due to the current shortage of lorry drivers.

What is being done to increase the numbers of lorry drivers?

    • More examiners will be brought in to increase the number of HGV driving tests.
    • There will be free intensive boot camps to train 3000 people to become HGV drivers, with another 1000 to be trained through courses funded by the adult education budget.
    • The government are writing to nearly one million drivers who hold a HGV licence to encourage them to return to work.
    • The government are allowing more workers from other countries into the UK from October.

    Reflection

Lorry drivers play a key role in so many areas of our lives. They help to transport much of the food we eat, the clothes we wear and the fuel to power our vehicles. Their role is vital to help keep the country moving!

  • Science Week 8th-12th March

    Mon 08 Mar 2021

This week we have been very busy taking part in different science activities across the school.  We hope you enjoy seeing and hearing what we have been up to!

    Reception

We have been looking at using different materials to make Little Red Riding hood's basket to carry her cookies to Grandma! We talked about which was strongest and which would last longer.

We also carried out some experiments outside. We created exploding potions mixing bicarbonate of soda with vinegar to make mini volcano potions!

    Year 5

We have been looking at classification webs and creating our own to sort animals into groups.

Take a look at some of our amazing work!

    Year 1

In Year 1 we have been looking at the human body. We used our friends as templates to draw and label the human body and then created our own 'Super Humans' by connecting body parts of different people.

Scroll to see what we got up to!

    Year 3

Year 3 have enjoyed observing seeds and bulbs and even had a go at planting our own seeds! We looked closely at a range of seeds and bulbs and created our own observation drawings. We are looking forward to helping our plants grow and watching them turn into seedlings. See what we have been up to below!

    Year 6

We were describing and comparing lifecycles of amphibians, mammals, insects and birds. Firstly, we created a visual presentation which we then presented to the class. See our pictures below!

    Nursery

Nursery have been very busy using their senses to explore both indoors and outdoors!

  • #BlackLivesMatter

    Mon 08 Jun 2020

Here at St Mary Magdalene Primary School, we strive to make sure that our pupils know what is going on in the world. In fact, we have Daily Dashboard monitors who pioneered this when we were all in school together.

Right now, something we need to talk about is #BlackLivesMatter

What do you know about it? Have you spoken about it with your family? With your friends?

Every day this week, we will be looking at and learning about an important person who has made an impact on #BlackLivesMatter in the past.

Monday’s VIP is Martin Luther King Jr. Here are some of our photos of us working on our factfiles to show what we have learned.

    • Monday’s final pieces. Miss B and Miss Francis are very proud of their group!
    • Tuesday’s VIP is Nelson Mandela. Here are our factfiles. We learned a lot by researching him and what he did.
    • Wednesday is the turn of Ruby Bridges. Here’s what we have learned…
    • Thursday’s VIP is Katherine Johnson. We really enjoyed finding out about her life.
