ALL ABOUT ME

We have been settling into our new classroom and learning the names of all our new friends.  We have been talking about our families and drawing pictures of ourselves.  We have been playing lots of listening and attention games and have been learning to follow the school rules by;

Keeping safe - walking inside and walking on the ramp

Being respectful - having kind hands to look after our toys and each other

Being ready - following our good listening routine so we are ready for learning.

Winter and Christmas

This half term we will be learning the story of Baby Jesus and The First Christmas.  We look forward to sharing our Christmas show with you on 7th December.  We will also be learning about winter and talking about the changes we notice outside.  We are continuing work on early maths concepts such as counting small sets to 5 with a strong pointy finger, showing 1,2,3,4,5 fingers and exploring shape.  We are learning about similarities and differences between people and will be talking about how different people celebrate Christmas - we would love to hear of any special traditions you have as a family.

We are also excited to welcome you into Nursery at the beginning of the session on Fridays to join us for crafts, music, worship, stories and rhymes.

Spring

Birth to me

We have been learning about our own life story.  We looked at baby photos of ourselves and noticed how much we have changed.  We talked about all the things we can do now that we could not do when we were small.  Our families have been sending in our own special stories (why they chose our names, how much we weighed when we were born and what time we were born.)  We read a lovely poem by Nancy Tillman called 'On the night you were born.'  We also wrote and shared our own stories (you will see this in your child's Learning Journey)

Amazing Animals

This half term has started off with great excitement with a visit from Mo, the 'Animal Man'.  He brought a range of animal friends for us to meet and many of us were brave enough to touch them.  Some of the children even let the tarantula sit on their heads!  (we have shared these photos on Seesaw and will also be sharing a powerpoint with you on Friday 10th March at the Stay and Play)

We will be learning about the lifecycle of animals and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of some tiny caterpillars which we will observe closely as they grow and change.  In maths we have been looking at the patterns on animals (stripes on the tiger and zebra, spots on the giraffe, zigzags on the snake.)  We have been creating patterns of our own using a range of media. Our indoor role play area has become a pet shop and our outdoor role play is now a Vet Clinic.  The children have been bringing in photos of their own pets to promote discussion in class.

Our Stay and Play sessions

Thank you to all who have joined us for Stay and Play so far.  The children love sharing their Nursery experience with you.

Special Events

Animal Man 2023

Mo, from Animals in Hand, came to school with a whole host of animal friends for us to meet.  We listened carefully as he talked to us about the animals and then bravely took turns to pet them.

World Book Day 2023

We celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as our favourite characters.  We had princesses, superheroes, a hungry caterpillar, a dinosaur explorer and even a mouse!

Our families came in to share books with us in the morning and we talked about our favourite books during the session.

We also had a visit from a dinosaur!
