Meet the Governors

The governing board, with the headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school. Governing boards have three core strategic functions:

•         Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

•         Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and

•         Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Sam Fagan      Chair of Governors

I am a Parent Governor at St Mary Magdalene Church of England School. I have experience of working alongside Sandwell schools during my time as a Trade Union Convenor and I currently work for the Local Authority. I have a daughter at St Mary Magdalene and a son who will hopefully be joining the school family when he is old enough. My interests include football (especially Celtic), running, cooking and spending time with family.

Brenda Hill

I wish to introduce myself to everyone. My name is Brenda Hill and I am a Governor at St Mary Magdalene Church of England School.

I am also a Church Warden at All Saints’ Church, which means Church and School are involved with each other.

My other interests are that I am a Bell Ringer at All Saints.

Jeff Perrins

My name is Jeff Perrins. I am aged 64 and married to Linda. I have one step son with three children and I have 1 dog called Odi. I was raised in Smethwick but I’ve lived in West Bromwich for nearly 40 years! I am an ex-primary school teacher and headteacher in Sandwell and Walsall. My interests include being a season ticket holder for WBA and a member of Handsworth Golf Club.

Sahib Sohal

I am a parent governor at St Mary Magdalene Church of England School.

Having previously worked within the education sector for over 10 years and having an IT background, I am very familiar with how a school operates on a day to day basis and have the knowledge of this.

As well as my daughter attending the school, I am very much interested in fully supporting and helping the school and its staff to achieve every child receiving the best education. My interests and hobbies include reading, traveling and spending time with family.

Neil Kingston

I moved to West Bromwich 10 years ago and have 3 children. My eldest 2 are currently at St Mary Magdalene and I am hoping that my youngest will also join the school in a few years. I am very committed to contributing to the continued success of the school and having worked in finance for over 20 years, including a period supporting schools' finances in a local authority, I have a wealth of experience that I will be able to use in my role as parent governor. I am a keen runner and triathlete, so you may see me dropping off the children in my shorts.

Catherine Medhurst

My name is Catherine Medhurst and I am the staff governor

at St Mary Magdalene Primary School. I am the Nursery

teacher and SENCo in school. I have the privilege of working

closely with many of our staff, children, families and external

agencies to design and provide the most appropriate support

for children across school with a Special Educational Need.

Through my role as Governor, I aim to bring the staff voice

into our governor's meetings. Outside of school, I enjoy

walking with my two dogs, George and Rufus and exploring

new places.

Mother Jane

Hello everyone, my name is Mother Jane and I am the Vicar of All Saints with St Mary Magdalene and St Philip's Churches here in West Bromwich. As well as being on the Governor Board of St Mary Magdalene School, I am responsible for the Christian Distinctiveness and RE. What do I most enjoy as a Governor, I think it is seeing the children's work and hearing their excitement about learning new things.

In my spare time, I enjoy Reading, Learning new Languages and Cooking.

Reverend Lisa Mitchell

Hello everyone, my name is Reverend Lisa and I am the Curate of All Saints Church.

Whilst training here in West Bromwich I was asked to be an Associate Governor for St Mary Magdalene School, an experience which has helped me to become more involved in the life and community of the school.

In my spare time, I enjoy road trips in my VW Campervan with my husband and our two dogs, Nelson and April.
