Year 3

Welcome to the Year 3 class page!

 

Here you will find lots of information about year 3 and what we are busy doing in the classroom.

 

Important information about Year 3

The teachers in our class are Miss Sedgwick and Miss Poole.

Our PE sessions are on Monday and Thursday. You need to come to school in your PE kit.

Spellings are sent out on a Monday and these need to be learned over the week. Homework is sent out for each half term and needs to be returned to school in the week before each holiday.

We will be leaning about lots of different things in Year 3, here is a quick overview of our learning for each term.

Our topic this term is the Norman invasion and life after 1066. 

What does our day look like in Year 3? 

Stone age! 

This term we are very excited to be learning all about the Stone Age! We have started off our topic with a fantastic drama workshop. Take a look at our pictures to see what we did.  

Black history workshop 04.10.21

Today we have had a workshop learning about some key figures from Black history. We have listened to the life stories of Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, Nelson Mandela, Mary Seacole and Katherine Johnson. We have learned about their struggles and what they went through in their lives. 

 

DT 09.11.21

This term for our DT we are going to be making our very own coin holders. Today we were able to test different materials to see which one we think would be the best to use in our design. We were very inventive in the way that we stretched and pulled the material! Take a look at some of our pictures. 

The water cycle 10.11.21

Today we have been showing our knowledge of the water cycle. We used the knowledge from the last lesson and we have worked in groups to be able to create our poster to show what we know! Look at some of our amazing work! 

 

02.12.21 - Ukulele

We have been working really hard on learning how to play the Ukulele. We have particularly enjoyed learning the Christmas tunes this week. 

Friday 10th December

We have been working really hard in our DT to create our own money holders. We have had to use lots of different skills to create them. E.g. sewing, creating a template and testing lots of materials. Take a look at our fantastic creations! 

Friday 17th December 2021 - Santa!

Today we have been having our Christmas party and we got a special surprise visitor! 

Science investigation -  Wednesday 12th January 2022

Today we have been investigating different materials to find out which material would be the most reflective. We wanted to choose a material that we could put on a book bag to keep everyone safe in the dark. We worked together to plan out our investigation and a conduct a fair test with the materials. Take a look at our investigation. 

Tuesday January - Problem solving day

Today we got the chance to take part in a problem solving day in school. There were some tricky puzzles and problems and we had to work together as a group to be able to solve them. It was really fun and we enjoyed the practical activities. 

Science - Wednesday 19th September 

Today we have been exploring mirrors and reflection. We used the mirrors to reflect some special messages to keep them secret. We swapped books with our partners to see if we could read their reflected code. Take a look at us in action!

Friday 21st January - Science workshop

Today we have had a brilliant workshop all about forces and magnets. We learned the meaning of some tricky words. Poles, friction, resistance, attract, repel and many more words. We got to act out different types of forces and we have talked about why different objects attract magnets. Take a look at the pictures to see us in action. 

Wednesday 2nd February - Science

Today we have been learning about opaque, translucent and transparent. We looked at the dash Addis that were formed when an object is opaque and the light rays are blocked. Have a look at some of the pictures of of finding and drawing around shadows on the playground. 

 

Maths 11.02.22

Today we have had 'Problem solving Friday' We got a chance to work with lots of different people and solve problems on different topics. We looked at positional language, shape, number facts and statistics.

Today we have completed another problem solving Friday. Here are some of the problems that we have tackled. Can you try and solve them? 

Geography 01.03.22

Today we have been using our Geography skills to create a map of the Black Country. We added our own symbols to create a key. Using some large maps we could locate different things in our area like train lines, urban land, rural land and greenbelt land.

Warwick Castle - 08.07.22

Today we have been on our trip to Warwick Castle to learn all about how the Normans lived. Have a look at our photographs to see what we did during the day.
