Fire Station Open Day!
On Wednesday 27th September 2023 a group of our year 5 children had the great opportunity to take part in an open day at West Bromwich Fire station. They had an amazing day meeting officers from various emergency services and specialist teams such as West Midland Fire Service, St Johns Ambulance Service. West Midlands Police Dogs, Firearms Unit, West Midlands Fire Service Drones and investigators. The children were amazed by some of the demonstrations they saw and particularly enjoyed dressing up and taking part in activities themselves, As well as it being a fantastic experience, it gave the children an insight and a better understanding of roles within these services and what they do every day to keep communities across West Bromwich/Sandwell safe.
School Council Elections!
Year 5 enjoyed voting day!
Our successful candidates are: Kvae and Ava - well done!
Art Week October 2023
We really enjoyed Art week in year 5 - we were focusing on the use of retrofurturism in art. First of all we took inspiration from Teis Albers 'Moonwalk'. We then had to complete a number of stages before making our final piece, we:
1 - tried out using different mediums, such as sketching pencils, chalk, oil pastels, charcoal and coloured pencils to create different space images.
2 - made a printing plate to create a textured background.
3 - used rollers and paints to make our textured background.
4 - planned and designed to show what we thought the world might look like in 50 years time.
5 - then used the different mediums we had chosen to create our final piece.
We were pleased with what we produced...

We had great fun designing and making our drawstring bags. First of all, we had to learn how to use different stitches. We then designed our bags, including any extra details we wanted to add. Once we had planned how to make our bag, we were able to make them. With a lot of concentration and team work we made some very successful bags, some of us even added some extra designs. We were very pleased with what we had made,..

Carding Mill Valley February 2024
We had an amazing trip, visiting Carding Mill Valley. In the morning we carried out a river study. First, we collected different creatures, we then had to identify these using a key. We then moved further down the river to measure the depth, width and flow of the river. Finally, we studied the rocks to see how far they had been carried down the river, we could tell this by their shape! After a much needed lunch, we enjoyed a walk up and around the hill - the scenery was fantastic! We all had a great day and some of us even slept on the way back!

Art Week June 2024 (Including Art gallery trip!)
During our excellent visit to Walsall Art gallery, we took some time exploring the different forms of art and used this for inspiration towards our own art work. We also had a couple of talks describing the different mediums used to create the art works around us. After this, we took part in a workshop with an artist who showed us techniques we could use in our sculptures; we then made some portraits out of clay.
The next day we used some of the ideas we had seen and techniques we had been taught to design, plan and make a relief tile featuring a Greek god / goddess of our choice. Here are some of our final pieces...
